Description
Summary:The Chagas’ heart disease is a common pathology in Latin-america; is found in Venezuelan states of: Trujillo, Lara, Portuguesa and Barinas. Death in these patients is attributable to multiple heart’s conditions: sudden death as a consequence of ventricular arrhythmias and heart failure, so we must considerate the indication of heart devices such as implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). Objectives: To evaluate outcomes in patients with Chagas’ cardiomyopathy with an ICD seen in Miguel Perez Carreño Hospital cardiology service. Results: 44 included, 22 with and 22 without an ICD, 90,9% with ICD and 63,6% without it had less than 40% ejection fraction (p=0,031) 22,7% with ICD presented electrical storm, 57 days was the time to the first adequate therapy, 68,1% presented appropriate therapies, and 9,1% inappropriate therapies. Conclusions:.Chagas’ cardiomyopathy patients are high risk ventricular arrhythmias, those with an ICD present frequent appropriate therapy.
