Shrnutí:Objectives: Sexual dysfunction (SD) assessment in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Methods: the study was done in 62 sexually active HD patients, 21 of them females, on chronic HD in 2 units of Maracaibo. Clinical and demographical date was analyzed. ASEX scale was used to assess sexuality. Beck Depression inventory (BDI) was used to detect depression. Results: 22.5 % of the studied patients had SD. Both ASEX and BDI scores were highly correlated (p<0.0002). Significant association (p<0.0147) of SD with age was found. SD also marginally correlated with serum albumin (p=0.063). Discussion: A close relationship between SD and depression was found which is consistent with the findings of previous studies. SD is also negatively influenced by age (p=0.0147). SD inversely correlated with serum albumin levels (p=0.063) possibly suggesting severity of underlying disease rather than nutritional status. Recommendations: Larger similar studies in other regions of the country.
