Izvleček:to evaluate the nutritional status of omega-3 and some micronutrients in vegetarian children and adolescents, based on anthropometric, biochemical and dietary indicators. Methods: 18 vegetarian children aged 2 to 17 years were evaluated, anthropometric measurements were performed and nutritional status indicators of body dimension and composition were used to establish the nutritional status of the individuals. The nutritional status of serum vitamin B12, folate, calcium, ferritin and erythrocytic omega-3 was determined; and food consumption was collected using 3 days dietary recall. Results: 44 % of the group was diagnosed as eutrophic, while another 50 % was ranked as undernourished, 5.6 % were overweight and 33 % had risk of stunting. Not deficiencies in serum folate or calcium were found. Serum vitamin B12 and ferritin deficiencies were found in 44 % and 61 % respectively, 83 % showed low levels of erythrocytic omega-3. The dietary intake for vitamin B12 and calcium were deficient in 89 % and 61 % respectively. As for iron, folic acid, zinc and α-linolenic acid almost all individuals obtained inadequate values by excess. Conclusions: the nutritional status was affected by the presence for the risk of stunting and decreased body composition indicators, being associated to the type of diet and high energy expenditure by physical activity. In addition, erythrocyte omega-3, serum ferritin and vitamin B12 showed deficiencies in most of the evaluated and the diet was hypoproteic and adjusted to the nutritional recommendations in the contribution of fats, carbohydrates and high in dietary fiber.
