Description
Summary:Objective: To study the relationship between H. pylori and ITP. Methods: Descriptive study, longitudinal type and retrospective. Study sample comprised 92 patients with ITP Hematology Service of the University Hospital of Caracas evaluated from July 2005 to July 2015. Results: H. pylori serology was performed in only 14.13% of patients in the sample study, of which 61.54% were positive; 53.85% were female and 7.69% male. ITP pediatric population was most affected by H. pylori (38.46%). Grade 2 bleeding was the most common in patients with positive serology (4.35%) clinical manifestation. Patients who received standard treatment for ITP in conjunction with therapy H. pylori eradication, 46.15% obtained complete response, while 15.39% did not receive eradication therapy achieved a partial response. Conclusions: Studies to determine the presence of H. pylori is not performed routinely in our service although H. pylori infection is one of the most common causes for ITP in our population, with a frequency of 61,54%. Eradication therapy has proven beneficial in the clinical course of these patients, low cost and low side effect profile, so it is important to determine the presence of H. pylori as a causative agent of ITP and initiate eradication treatment one after confirming the infection.
