Summary:To characterize the clinical and epidemiological aspects and establish the etiology of idiopathic inflammatory myelopathy, Method: was determined by looking for information with the use of medical records of patients treated at the University Hospital of Caracas who were admitted to the neurology service, the period 2006-2012, the study included 64 patients diagnosed with idiopathic inflammatory myelopathy. Results: 44 patients belonged to females (69%) and 20 male (31%), the age range was between 37 and 60 years; Among the main clinical manifestations, with a higher percentage with a total of 50, which represented the (79%) revealed paraparesis, followed by paraplegia with a total of 12 patients (19%), and with quadriplegia only found in one patient constituting 2%. For its evolution over time, we found that 22 patients remained with the diagnosis of idiopathic inflammatory myelopathy, followed by 21 patients who concluded the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, and 15 patients with a diagnosis of NMO. Conclusion: The acute inflammatory myelopathy is an entity that can be the first clinical manifestation of a wide range of neurological and systemic diseases.
