Summary:Staphylococcus aureus (SA) is a common pathogen in hospitalized children. It causes a wide range of infections from mild to severe. Patients colonized with community-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains (SARM-AC) have been reported. Objective: To analyze the clinic of community-acquired Staphylococcus aureus infections and antimicrobial susceptibility in children aged 1 to 5 years who were admitted to the Pediatric Hospital Dr. Elías Toro in the period between January 2013 and December 2015. Method : A descriptive, retrospective cross-sectional case study was conducted. Statistical treatment: Continuous variables were treated by means of frequency calculations and measures of central tendency, categorical or qualitative with percentages. Data were tabulated and analyzed using SPSS software version 20.0. Results: 90 patients with bacteriologically confirmed Staphylococcus aureus infections were found. The most common pathology was abscess with 75.6% (68 cases) followed by cellulitis with 10% (9 cases), as compared to 52.2% (47 cases) were girls and 47.8% were children. The combination of antibiotics with the highest frequency of initial treatment was oxacillin plus amikacin with 45.6% (41 cases), 4.4% (4 cases) , And no mortality was evidenced, the socioeconomic stratum that predominated was the lowest of Graffar. Conclusion: the most frequent SA infections were: abscesses. High sensitivity of SA to clindamycin and TMP-SMX with high resistance to oxacillin was observed.
