| Summary: | Objective: To relate the clinicopathological aspects of colorectal cancer and smoking in patients of the Hospital Oncology Service of the Venezuelan Institute of Social Security (SOH-IVSS) from January 2010 to December 2015. Methods: 296 patients were classified according to Smoking among current smokers, ex-smokers and non-smokers; correlated with clinicopathological variables of the study population. Results: 50.3% of the population had a smoking habit; 66.4% of the smokers were male and 4 years younger than the non-smokers. It was evidenced that 22.8% of smokers also presented associated alcohol consumption and that the clinical debut of intestinal obstruction was present in 31.6% of the patients who smoked today; these 4 variables being statistically significant. Conclusion: Colorectal cancer presents clinicopathological aspects that are related to smoking. |
