| Summary: | Objective: Evaluation to dietary habits and relation to cardiovascular risk factors in the population attending to the consultation of Endocrinology, Military Hospital "Dr. Carlos Arvelo", Caracas, February 2011 to July 2012 to propose nutritional strategies tailored to the needs of patients in order to prevent or reduce cardiovascular risk Methods: For non-probabilistic intentional sample estimate, 200 subjects were selected by identifying food consumption habits, anthropometric measurements and laboratory profile (glucose and basal insulin, lipid profile and uric acid) to identify a relationship between these habits and parameters cardiovascular Risk Results: The sample was he represented mainly by the 79 % female, with an average age of 12.02 ± 41.9 years, for no diabetic history, 5 % and 6 % were hypertensive carriers of dyslipidemia. Dietary habits was hipoglucida, preferably low-fat and high protein animal protein. Overweight and obesity was found in 77.5 % of evaluated, 23.5 % of hyperglycemia, hypercholesterolemia 36%, 52.5 % with low levels of HDL -col, 29.5 % and 38.5 % hypertensive prehypertension diastolic. All this was associated with medium and high risk of cardiovascular events Conclusions: Considering the findings in this study, the development of an education-focused nutrition program staff awareness arises health and education of patients, families and communities with scientific information in a timely, progressive, systematic and sustainable way over time to reduce cardiovascular risk factors and improve health conditions |
