Description
Summary:Suicide has become a public health problem that affects thousands of people every day. Psychology has established a series of competencies that must be present when carrying out a therapeutic approach to the various problems, including the approach to suicidal behavior. In this regard, the present research aims to analyze the therapeutic skills possessed by clinical psychologists of the Colleges of Psychologists of Miranda and Capital District, both from Venezuela, on the basis of the Competency Framework for the Prevention of Self-harm and Suicide (NCCMH, 2018) to address suicidal behavior. The present study was conducted from the type of nonexperimental research, with a descriptive cross-sectional or translational design, with the participation of 13 clinical psychologists who have addressed two or more cases of suicidal behavior in their professional practice. A 60-item instrument was developed, validated and implemented based on the above competency framework. The results show that most of the participants present the described therapeutic competencies, however it was also possible to identify the deficit of some competencies necessary to achieve a complete therapeutic approach.
