Psychology has established a series of competencies that must be present when carrying out a therapeutic approach to the various problems, including the approach to suicidal behavior. In this regard, the present research aims to analyze the therapeutic skills possessed by clinical psychologists of the Colleges of Psychologists of Miranda and Capital District, both from Venezuela, on the basis of the Competency Framework for the Prevention of Self-harm and Suicide (NCCMH, 2018) to address suicidal behavior. The present study was conducted from the type of nonexperimental research, with a descriptive cross-sectional or translational design, with the participation of 13 clinical psychologists who have addressed two or more cases of suicidal behavior in their professional practice. A 60-item instrument was developed, validated and implemented based on the above competency framework. The results show that most of the participants present the described therapeutic competencies, however it was also possible to identify the deficit of some competencies necessary to achieve a complete therapeutic approach. Desde la psicología se han establecido una serie de competencias que deben estar presentes al momento de realizar un abordaje terapéutico a los diversos problemas, incluyendo el abordaje del comportamiento suicida. Al respecto, la presente investigación tuvo como objetivo analizar las competencias terapéuticas que poseen los psicólogos clínicos de los Colegios de Psicólogos de Miranda y Distrito Capital, ambos de Venezuela sobre la base del Marco de Competencias para la Prevención de Autolesiones y Suicidios (NCCMH, 2018) para abordar el comportamiento suicida. El presente estudio se realizó desde el tipo de investigación no experimental, con un diseño transeccional o transversal descriptivo, se contó con la participación de 13 psicólogos clínicos que han abordado dos o más casos de comportamiento suicida en su práctica profesional. Se elaboró, validó y aplicó un instrumento compuesto de 60 ítems basados en el marco de competencias mencionado. Los resultados muestran que la mayoría de los participantes presentan las competencias terapeutas descritas, sin embargo también se logró identificar el déficit de algunas competencias necesarias para alcanzar un abordaje terapéutico completo.
