| Summary: | Objective: To determine correlation between protein/creatinine ratio and 24 hour urine total protein among women with diagnosis of pre-eclampsia. Methods: a transectional descriptive study was conducted in 30 women with preeclampsia diagnosis. After obstetrics resolution, we collected 24-h urine samples with a foley catheter, after 90 min of removing it, we recollected another urine sample for protein/creatinine ratio. Results: the protein/creatinine ratio was 3.2 times greater compared to the control group being this statistically significant ( p=002 ). The sensibility and specificity obtain from ROC analyses for the P:C ratio was 53.3% and 93,3% respectively and AUC:0 76 being this value statistically significant and highly predictive. The 24-h protein has a sensibility and specificity greater than 80 % considering a good predictor with an AUC close to 1 with a great capacity to demonstrate proteinuria. The P:C ratio variability was calculated. A ratio below 0,47 could rule out proteinuria and a ratio above 0,55 confirms proteinuria. Conclusion: The P:C ratio shows a good correlation with a 24-h urine protein level with a r = 0,419 a value p = 0,021. The protein/creatinine ratio has a high specificity but a low sensibility, for this reason the clinical use of this ratio is to discard proteinuria, being this a more accessible, faster and economic procedure. We do not recommend to replace the gold standard 24-h proteinuria in pacients with pre-eclampsia. |
