| Summary: | Objective: To determine and compare the mean postoperative value of Levine’s score, between the mini open technique (MO) versus the Chow Single Portal (CSP). Methods: Levine’s self-administered questionnaire will be used on 50 patients of the Hand Surgery Department that have a diagnosis of Median Nerve Compression on the carpal tunnel, the patients will be divided in two groups, group A: will be treated with a MO incision, group B: will be treated with a CSP incision. The Levine’s score will be carried out six months after the surgical procedure. The data is going to be collected with a proper statistics descriptive procedure using the self-administered questionnaire. Results: Group A had a pre-operative symptom value of 3.15 and function value of 3.09 meanwhile Group B had 3.24 and 3,18 respectively. Postoperative Symptom and functional values show Group A 1.46 and 1.35 on the Group B 1.49 and 1.4 respectively. Patients treated with the mini open approach showed a decrease of 54,5 % from the preoperative score. Chow single approach patients had a decrease of 56,2% from the starting score. Conclusions: This study shows no difference on the surgical approach decided to release the median nerve on the carpal tunnel, on a six months’ postoperative period. |
